Where To Ride in the Las Vegas Area
Dunes and Trails ATV Club receives many requests for information about where to ride near Las Vegas. The following are some of the places you can enjoy riding your ATV. Please remember that ATVs cannot be ridden anywhere in the Las Vegas Valley except at Nellis Dunes. There are other restricted areas, which include, but are not limited to, Lake Mead National Recreation Area, Indian Lands, military lands, wildlife refuge areas (Sheep Mountains), private lands, Wilderness areas, and State Parks. It is highly recommended that you contact the Las Vegas BLM office and purchase a BLM Surface Management map of the area you wish to ride. These maps show the ownership of the land, and are therefore a good guide to where you can and cannot ride. There are no regulations in Nevada governing OHVs except for the rules that the BLM and Forest Service have established on the lands that they manage. Please contact these agencies for their rules. Unless an area is posted as an open riding area, such as Nellis Dunes, riders must stay on existing roads and trails. No cross country riding is allowed. Finally, it is very important to carry the equipment you will need in case of an accident or breakdown. Plenty of water is a must at all times of the year in our desert. Dunes and Trails ATV Club strongly recommends that you do not ride in the desert areas in the summer heat, strongly recommends that you do not ride alone, and strongly recommends that riders wear proper protective equipment.
NELLIS DUNES
Take I-15 north to exit 58 (Apex), turn right onto Las Vegas Blvd. The parking area is on the left side of the road. Please respect the Moapa Band of Paiute Reservation lands and do not travel beyond tribal boundary signs without permission. RVs can park overnight, but it is an exposed and perhaps not too secure a place, because of its proximity to the interstate highway.
JEAN DRY LAKE AREA
Take I-15 south to exit 25 (Sloan). Turn left and cross under I-15. Turn right onto the old Los Angeles Highway. Travel 9 miles and turn left onto a county maintained road (Knight Ranch Road). The dry lake bed is on your left as you approach this road. There are many suitable access roads to the dry lake bed from the county maintained road. RVs can camp overnight in this area.
ELDORADO DRY LAKE VALLEY AREA
Take US 95 south toward Boulder City. A mile or so after passing the Railroad Pass Casino, turn right, staying on US 95 towards Searchlight and travel approximately 7 miles until you see Eldorado Dry Lake Bed on the right. There are many access routes in this area from which to travel and explore. RVs can camp in this area.
LOGANDALE TRAILS SYSTEM
Take I-15 north to exit 93 (Overton/Logandale). Turn right and go approximately 7 miles to Liston Street. Turn right on Liston. Go to the end of the street and turn right. Go over the railroad tracks and follow the dirt road to the trailhead. There is a restroom at the trailhead and RVs can camp there. Please stay on the legal trails. Some riders are going off the trails and creating new ones. This could cause this area to be closed. There are many good, legal trails to ride in this beautiful area.
